Motorists are currently finding some of the lowest gas prices of the year, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which anticipates that gas prices in Georgia should hit their lowest point of 2017 early this week. Sunday’s state average of $2.16 was just fractions of a penny above this year’s lowest price of $2.157 set on March 27th.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded declined in Georgia for the 22nd consecutive day for a total discount of seven cents. That average is 3.5 cents less than a week ago and six cents less than last year.
Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman, states, “The plunge at the pump comes as oil prices took a pounding for the third week in a row. Markets moved lower after another round of supply data showing high US and global refinery production. American motorists are the big winners here, as they fill their tanks for a summer road trip. These low gas prices should stick around for awhile until oil prices change course.”
Sunday’s national average was $2.296, some four cents less than this same time last year.
