A couple of the nation’s top aerobatic pilots are featured on the performer line up for the 7th annual Wings Over North Georgia air show, slated for Saturday and Sunday at the Russell Regional Airport in Rome.
American aviatrix Patty Wagstaff has been inducted into numerous Halls of Fame, including the National Aviation Hall of Fame. In 1991, she became the first woman to win the US National Aerobatic Championships; it was the first of three victories for Wagstaff in that competition. One of her planes is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, next to an aircraft once flown by Amelia Earhart. Wagstaff describes the honor as ‘surreal’.
Michael Goulian is also among the performers slated to appear in Rome’s air show; he is fresh off a victory in the 2018 Red Bull Air Race at Indianapolis last weekend.
This year’s Wings Over North Georgia will be headlined by the US Air Force F-22 Raptor and A-10 Warthog demonstration teams. It will also feature Tora!Tora! Tora!, a reenactment of Pearl Harbor complete with pyrotechnics. Get tickets and more information at www.wingsovernorthgeorgia.com.
