The Atlanta Braves opened a six-game homestand with an 8-2 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night in the first meeting of a two game set between the National League East rivals at SunTrust Park.

The Braves surged ahead of the Mets with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a grand slam from Ozzie Albies.

Freddie Freeman had a solo home run earlier in the inning to tie the ballgame at 2-2.

Atlanta starter Mike Foltynewicz rendered the Mets scoreless before exiting at the end of the fifth due to right triceps tightness.  Shane Carle got the win in relief.  Smyrna native Zack Wheeler took the loss for New York.

Atlanta returned to the top spot of the NL East with Tuesday night’s win; they hold a one game lead over Washington in the division race.

The Braves will conclude their series with the Mets this afternoon; first pitch is set for 12:10 pm.  The game will not be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410 as we will be airing the Rush Limbaugh show at that time.  WLAQ will resume coverage from the Braves Radio Network on Thursday night as Atlanta opens up a four game set against the San Diego Padres.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves defeated the Greenville Drive by a final score of 10-4 on Tuesday evening in Greenville, South Carolina.  The teams will meet in a double header today; first pitch of game one is scheduled for 5 pm.
