Today marks the 17th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The attacks were coordinated by al-Qaeda and resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people as thousands more suffered injuries, with even more fatalities over the years due to cancer and respiratory diseases.
On that tragic day of 9/11, two planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, while another crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC. A fourth plane crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
