The American League bested the National League 8-6 over 10 innings in the 89th annual MLB All-Star Game held on Tuesday night at Nationals Park in Washington, DC, home of the Washington Nationals.
The teams combined for a record 10 home runs, including a couple of back to back homers from Alex Bregman and George Springer of the Houston Astros that put the AL ahead in 10th. Bregman was named game MVP.
Edwin Diaz was credited as the winning pitcher, while JA Happ got the save for the AL. Ross Stripling took the loss for the NL.
The Atlanta Braves had four representatives on the National League team in the Midsummer Classic. Mike Foltynewicz pitched one scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout. Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis and Ozzie Albies all went hitless, though Markakis did draw a walk in the fourth.
The Braves will resume play for the 2018 season this weekend in DC with a three game set versus the Washington Nationals. First pitch of Friday night’s opener is set for 7:05 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410. Air time is 5:50 pm from the Braves Radio Network.
In a minor league update, the Rome Braves took both matches of a twin bill against the Augusta Greenjackets, 6-4 and 5-1, in Augusta on Tuesday. Rome is off today.
