The Atlanta Braves defeated the Miami Marlins 9-2 on Thursday night in the opener of a four game set at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida.  It was the third consecutive win for Atlanta, their eighth straight on the road.

The Braves’ bats came alive with a total of seven runs in the top of the sixth inning, including a grand slam from Ozzie Albies.  It was the first grand slam of his career and his 11th home run of the season.

Freddie Freeman also contributed a two-run shot in that inning; he notched a career high with five hits on the night.

Mike Foltynewicz picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up one unearned run and three hits, walking two and striking out four over five innings.  Luiz Gohara was credited with the save.

The National League East-leading Braves will take on the Marlins again this evening.  First pitch is set for 7:10 pm in Miami.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 5:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves were hammered by the Augusta Greenjackets 15-1 on Thursday night.  The Braves will conclude their series at Augusta tonight at 7:05 pm.
