ATLANTA BRAVES HAMMER WASHINGTON NATIONALS TO TAKE FIRST SERIES IN DC SINCE ’14

The Atlanta Braves hammered the Washington Nationals 13-2 on Wednesday in the finale of a three-game set in Washington DC, allowing the Braves to take the series 2-1.  It marked Atlanta’s first series victory at Nationals Park since April of 2014.

Highlights of the day included a two-run homer from Kurt Suzuki in the top of the third inning.

The Braves tallied a total of 16 hits on the day, including four from the bat of Brandon Phillips.  Phillips also had three RBIs.

Julio Teheran picked up the win for Atlanta after giving up just two runs and six hits, walking one and striking out three over seven innings.  Tanner Roark took the loss for Washington.

The Braves are off tonight and will return to their home field at SunTrust Park on Friday night for the first of three games against the Miami Marlins.  First pitch is set for 7:35 pm.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410.  Air time is 6:20 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Augusta Greenjackets by a final score of 4-2 on Wednesday in the middle outing of a three-game set at State Mutual Stadium.  The Braves will aim for the sweep in the series finale tonight at 7 pm.
