The Atlanta Braves opened a six-game homestand with a loss to the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Tuesday night at SunTrust Park, ending the Braves’ most recent winning streak at three straight games.
Chicago struck first as Wilson Contreras scored on a throwing error by Kurt Suzuki in the top of the fourth. A solo home run from Ender Inciarte allowed Atlanta to tie the game in the bottom of that inning. The Braves took the lead on a solo shot by Ronald Acuna Jr. in the bottom of the eighth; it was his first at SunTrust Park, his fourth as a major leaguer.
The Cubs answered in the top of the ninth with an RBI double from Addison Russell that brought Albert Almora Jr. to home plate to once again tie the ball game. An RBI single by Ben Zobrist scored Russell to break that tie, and the Braves fell to the Cubs, again, 3-2. Arodys Vizcaino took the loss in light of his blown save.
The Braves will face the Cubs again this evening at 7:35 pm. The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410. Air time is 6:20 pm.
In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Hickory Crawdads by a final score of 4-3 on Tuesday in the finale of a four game set at Hickory, NC. The local team is off today.
