The Rome Braves picked up an exciting 6-5 win over the Augusta Greenjackets last night at State Mutual Stadium. The victory came down to the very last inning.
They were interrupted by a rain delay of nearly two hours, but the Atlanta Braves managed to stick it out last night and did it victoriously, with a 7-1 win over the Miami Marlins at Turner Field. It was the Braves’ seventh victory in a row. Kris Medlin got the win for the Braves in his first start since 2010. Both Brian McCann and Tyler Pastornicky homered for the Braves in last night’s game.

Today is election day – the date of the big primary election in Georgia. Voters will determine the fate of the transportation referendum, or T-SPLOST. The one-cent sales tax is up for a vote on a regional basis. Floyd County voters will decide who will fill the unexpired terms of Eddie Lumsden and Chad Whitefield on the Floyd County Commission. Republicans Nathan Roberts and Rhonda Wallace are seeking the Post 1 seat that was held by Whitefield, while Jerry Lee and Larry Maxey, also Republicans, are seeking the Post 4 seat that was held by Lumsden. Incumbent Garry Fricks and Roger Wade, both Republicans, are running for the Post 2 seat on the Floyd County Commission. The winner of that race will face Democrat Gary D. Harrell in the fall. Three Republicans are vying for State Senate District 52, including David Doss, Chuck Hufstetler and Hayden Collins. If necessary, a run off election will be held in that race on August 21st.
The Floyd County GOP’s headquarters will be open tonight from 7 pm until all election results are in. The public is invited to stop by the headquarters at 337 Broad Street in downtown Rome to watch the results come in and enjoy refreshments.
