College softball is on tap for Shorter University today as the 9th ranked Lady Hawks travel to Waleska, Georgia to take on Reinhardt University. The double header will get underway at 3 pm.
If you’re in the mood to watch some baseball today, you’ll have a couple of opportunities to do that on a collegiate level. Shorter University’s Hawks baseball team will host Talladega College in a double header today at 1 pm at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
The Rome Floyd Sports Hall of Fame inducted four new members last night during a special banquet and awards ceremony at Berry College’s Krannert Center. The 2012 inductees include Bob Williams for Meritorious Service, Mary Brock McMahon for Amateur Athletics, Willie Brown for Amateur Athletics and Dwight Henderson for Lifetime Achievement.
The Floyd County Commission will meet in regular session tomorrow. They’ll gather for a caucus session at 4 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6 pm at the Floyd County Administration Building on East Fourth Avenue in downtown Rome. Many subscribers to Floyd County’s CodeRED weather alert system have reported that they did not receive warning of the storm that hit this area last Wednesday night (which has been classified as an EF-1 tornado). Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director Scotty Hancock told WLAQ News/The Ridge Report that the system is dependent on the National Weather Service, which affects whether or not those with CodeRED are alerted of impending severe weather. He says it would be helpful if the NWS updated their system.
