The Rome City Commission will meet this evening. They will hold a caucus session at 5 pm, to be followed by their meeting at 6:30 pm at City Hall (the City Auditorium) on Broad Street. Both are open to the public.
The Atlanta Braves concluded a six-game homestand with a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four game set at SunTrust Park, allowing the Braves to take the series 3-1.
Upgrades continue on the historic Clock Tower in downtown Rome. Kristi Kent, Director of Communications for the City of Rome, says that repairs to the brick work around the local landmark should be completed by the end of September (if not sooner).
A four-year-old died in a drowning incident in Floyd County on Wednesday night. The child has been identified as Levi Waln. According to reports, he was discovered unconscious in the family’s in-ground pool on Mathis Road just before 7:30 pm. Medics’ attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at Floyd Medical Center at 9 pm.
Things will be heating up in the Greater Rome area this weekend and on into next week, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures are expected to reach 92 with heat index values as high as 98 today. The forecast also calls for mostly sunny skies that will be accompanied by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon. Skies will be partly cloudy tonight with lows around 70.
