The Washington Nationals blanked the Chicago Cubs 5-0 in game four of their National League Division Series on Wednesday in Chicago to even the series 2-2 (and force a game five). Michael A. Taylor contributed a grand slam in the top of the eighth for the Nats. Stephen Strasburg pitched seven scoreless innings en route to the win; he surrendered just three hits, walked two and struck out 12. The teams will be in Washington DC tonight for the decisive game five at 8 pm.
The Atlanta Hawks will close out their NBA pre-season schedule tonight at home with a match against the Dallas Mavericks. Tip off is slated for 7:30 pm at the Philips Arena.
The time is drawing near for the 2017 Wings Over North Georgia air show! This year’s air show will be held next Saturday and Sunday, October 21st and 22nd at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport and will be headlined by the United States Navy’s Blue Angels.
Stephanie Dean, a fifth grade social studies and writing teacher at West Central Elementary, has been named the Rome City Schools’ Teacher of the Year. Brittany Carpenter, a kindergarten teacher at East Central Elementary, is the runner-up. Both were honored during the school system’s Teacher of the Year banquet at Rome Middle on Tuesday evening. Julie Clonts, secretary for Elm Street Elementary, received the Support Employee of the Year Award.
The Floyd County Commission has approved a proposal from the Rome Area Council for the Arts (RACA) to construct an arts amphitheater and exhibition space adjacent to the Rome-Floyd County Library. Commissioners approved the measure during their regular meeting on Tuesday.
