The Atlanta Braves were blanked by the Philadephia Phillies 4-0 in the finale of a three game set at Philadelphia on Wednesday night, allowing the Phillies to take the series 2-1.  This also cut the Braves’ lead over the Phillies to a half game in the NL East.

Luiz Gohara took the loss for Atlanta; he was charged with two runs and four hits, walked four and struck out six over four innings pitched in his first start of the season.

Jake Arrieta struck out seven in six and two-third scoreless innings en route to the win for Philly; he also gave up seven hits and walked one.

Carlos Santana opened the scoring for the Phillies with an RBI single which drove Rhys Hoskins to home plate in the bottom of the third.

Philadelphia tacked on another run in the fourth on an RBI single from Cesar Hernandez.  An RBI double from Mikel Franco accounted for their third run of the night in the fifth.  The Phillies notched their fourth and final run on an RBI double by pinch hitter Nick Williams in the eighth.

The Braves have tonight off and will return to action this weekend in Boston with a three-game interleague series versus the Red Sox.  Friday night’s series opener is slated to get underway at 7:10 pm at historic Fenway Park and will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 5:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Lexington Legends 4-1 on Wednesday in Lexington, KY.  The teams will conclude their four game set this evening at 7:05 pm.
