BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE TO PADRES

The Atlanta Braves fell to the San Diego Padres 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set in San Diego, allowing the Padres to take the series 2-1.

Things looked hopeful for the Braves as Freddie Freeman gave them an early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first inning.

But the Padres struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and added an insurance run in the eighth.

Mike Foltynewicz was charged with two runs and five hits over five innings in the loss for Atlanta; he also walked three and struck out eight.

San Diego relied largely on its bullpen to secure the victory.  Jose Castillo got the win in relief, while Brad Hand got the save.

The Braves have tonight off and will continue their current road trip out west with a three-game set in Los Angeles versus the Dodgers this weekend.  First pitch of Friday night’s opener is slated for 10:10 pm Eastern.  The game will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; air time is 8:55 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves beat the Asheville Tourists 7-1 in the middle outing of a three game set at Asheville, NC on Wednesday night.  The series finale is scheduled for tonight at 7:05 pm.
