The Atlanta Braves crushed the San Diego Padres 14-1 on Tuesday night in the middle outing of a three-game set at Petco Park in San Diego, California, allowing Atlanta to tie the series at a game apiece.

The Braves recorded a total of 18 hits; one of their biggest hits of the night was a three-run homer off the bat of Nick Markakis in the top of the seventh inning.

Freddie Freeman had a solo shot in third; he notched four hits and drove in a couple of runs.  Dansby Swanson hit a two-run homer in the fifth; he drove in three runs and had a three-hit night.  Charlie Culberson and Kurt Suzuki each drove in a pair of runs for Atlanta; Suzuki had three hits, while Culberson had two.

Sean Newcomb picked up the win after limiting the Padres to three hits over six scoreless innings; he also walked three and struck out four.  Luke Jackson got the save.

The Braves will wrap up their series in San Diego with a 3:40 pm match this afternoon against the Padres.  It will be broadcast on WLAQ AM 1410; we will join pre-game programming in progress from the Braves Radio Network upon the conclusion of the Rush Limbaugh show at 3 pm.

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves fell to the Asheville Tourists 11-6 on Tuesday night at Asheville, NC.  The teams will meet again this evening at 7:05 pm.

The Rome ballclub announced on Tuesday that it will send six players to the 2018 South Atlantic All-Star Game, including pitchers Bruce Zimmermann, Walter Borkovich, Kelvin Rodriguez and Freddy Tarnok, and position players Riley Delgado and Drew Waters.  They will participate on Southern Division team in the All-Star Game, set for June 19th in Greensboro, NC.
