The Chattooga County Health Department at 60 Farrar Drive in Summerville will be closed next Thursday, December 15th for mandatory staff-development training, according to a release from Chattooga Public Health. Health Department Nurse Manager Cheryl Bandy states, “We wish we didn’t have to close for the day, but this training is required, and all health department employees must attend. Blaine Williams, who currently serves as interim Floyd County Manager, is the front runner to take the job permanently. He is expected to be appointed to the job in 14 days. Interviews were conducted yesterday with four candidates for the position. Two of them have withdrawn their applications. According to state law, a waiting period of 14 days must be observed before Williams can be confirmed as county manager. Williams has been the assistant county manager since 2007. He is serving as interim manager following the resignation of Kevin Poe, who is leaving Floyd County to become the manager of Jackson County.

Stephanie Barwick nabbed the honor after participating in the interview competition state finals held last weekend at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, according to a Floyd County Schools media release.
