The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce wants you to stay at home and shop Rome this holiday season. Chamber President Al Hodge says that doing so helps your neighbors.
A Pepperell High School senior has won the state title in the Georgia FFA State Job Interview Career Development Event. Stephanie Barwick nabbed the honor after participating in the interview competition state finals held last weekend at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, according to a Floyd County Schools media release.
Are people really more giving during the holiday season? Rich Lampkin, Executive Director of the United Way of Rome and Floyd County, says that in the case of his organization, though some have had cut back on their giving in recent days, every contribution they receive adds up.
The Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced that due to rain, there have been some changes for the Christmas Candlelight Processional and Concert scheduled for tonight. The Processional that was to begin at 6 pm has been canceled. The Christmas Concert is still on for 7 pm at the Forum in downtown Rome. Doors will open at 6 pm. The Westminster Presbyterian Handbell choirs will provide pre-event music from 6:15 pm until 7 pm. The 7 pm concert will feature the Three Rivers Singers, the Shorter Chorus, Northwest Georgia Winds, New Horizons Band and Deborah Popham. Narration will be provided by Dr. Betty Siegel, Distinguished Chair of the Siegel Institute for Leadership, Ethics and Character and President Emeritus at Kennesaw State University, and Marvin Williams, Superintendent of Polk County Schools. More syringes have been discovered in clothing at the Wal Mart in Cartersville. Three more have been found in recent days, bring the total number to seven. An investigation continues by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office. Shoppers are warned to check clothes from that store before trying them on.
