In spite of the cold last night and nasty weather prior to that, the Rome Christmas Parade went on as scheduled last night. The parade made its way down Broad Street, led by grand marshals Sam and Janet Baltzer. The highlight of the parade came at the end when Santa Claus lit the city’s Christmas tree. A tree near the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce is currently serving as Rome’s Christmas tree, after the one in front of City Hall was infested with beetles and was cut down earlier this week. According to parade co-chair Janet Byington, it will be replaced.
Members of the Cedartown-Polk County Hospital Authority, the Hospital Authority of Floyd County and Floyd Healthcare Management Inc. have signed a definitive agreement through which the Cedartown-Polk County Hospital Authority will lease Polk Medical Center to the Hospital Authority of Floyd County as of April 1, 2012. The boards had originally agreed to a January 1st commencement, but decided upon a three-month extension of the existing lease with Redmond Regional Medical Center with the intent of facilitating an orderly transition, according to a release from the Cedartown-Polk County Hospital Authority.
Mike Morton with the Rome Tea Party says that those wanting to hear DA King speak tomorrow night at the Partridge Restaurant on Broad Street in downtown Rome better go ahead and make their reservations to do so. The event is set to begin at 6:30 pm. Morton expects an engaging speech from King about illegal immigration.
