Things will be heating up in the Greater Rome area this weekend and on into next week, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures are expected to reach 92 with heat index values as high as 98 today. The forecast also calls for mostly sunny skies that will be accompanied by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon. Skies will be partly cloudy tonight with lows around 70.
The City of Rome will celebrate its one year anniversary as a Bee City USA next week. Activities will be held locally to coincide with the observance of National Pollinator Week, June 18th through 24th.
The Georgia Department of Labor reports that the state’s unemployment rate stood at 4.2 percent last month, a decline from 4.3 percent in April and from 4.8 percent in May 2018.
The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center has scheduled a Scrap Tire Amnesty Day for Saturday, June 23rd from 9 am to 2 pm at State Mutual Stadium.
Mike Mathews, manager of the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport/Admiral John H. Towers Field, will soon leave Floyd County to take a new job as the Director of the Athens-Ben Epps Airport. He will assume his new post with the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government on July 9th, 2018, according to Manager Blaine Williams (who previously served as County Manager for Floyd County).
