OPENING DAY IS TOMORROW FOR ATLANTA AND ROME BRAVES!!!

Opening day is tomorrow for both the Atlanta Braves and the Rome Braves!  The Atlanta Braves will open the 2012 season in New York against the Mets.  First pitch is set for 1:10 pm at Citi Field.  We’ll have all the action of the game for you on WLAQ AM 1410!   Pre-game programming will begin at 11:55 am.  (A note to Rush Limbaugh listeners:  we normally do not pre-empt Rush’s program, but will make the exception for Braves’ opening day).

ATLANTA BRAVES CURRENT STARS TOP ‘FUTURE STARS’ AT COOLRAY FIELD

Atlanta Braves stars of today and ‘future’ stars participated in a Futures game last night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, home of the Triple A Gwinnett Braves.  Retired Braves manager Bobby Cox returned to managing last night as he headed up a team of the Braves’ “Future Stars” which included players moving up through the Braves farm system.  They got beat by the Braves’ current stars, managed by current Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, by a score of 4-3 in a game that was shortened to six and a half innings due to rain.

SHORTER SOFTBALL SWEEPS BREWTON PARKER, SURPASSES 30 WINS

Shorter University’s softball team swept Brewton Parker in a double header yesterday at the Alto Park softball complex, allowing the 9th ranked Lady Hawks to surpass 30 wins so far for the 2012 season.  They won the first game 3-2 in eight innings before taking the night cap 9-1.  The Lady Hawks will be on the road this weekend.  They’ll head to Thomasville to take on Thomas University in a non-league double header on Friday at 3 pm.  That will be followed by a double header at Brewton Parker on Saturday at 1 pm.
