College softball is on tap today for local teams. Shorter University’s Lady Hawks will host Southern States Athletic Conference rival Lee University in a double header at 4 pm. Berry College’s Lady Vikings will play their first home games of the season against Truett McConnell today. Their double header will get underway at 2 pm.
The 2012 NAIA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will get underway tomorrow. Shorter University’s number one Hawks departed yesterday for Kansas City, Missouri to participate in the men’s tournament for the first time ever. Shorter’s 20th ranked Lady Hawks will make their third straight appearance (and fourth overall) in the women’s tournament, which is being held in Frankfort, Kentucky for the first time this year after more than 20 years in Jackson, Tennessee. The Hawks are the number one seed in the men’s tournament and will face Life University from Marietta in opening round action tomorrow at 11:45 am Eastern Time. The Lady Hawks picked up the number six seed in the tournament and will take on Olivet Nazarene from Bourbonnais, Illinois tomorrow night at 8 pm.
In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks will continue their current six game road trip with a match in Denver, Colorado against the Nuggets tonight at 9 pm.
The Atlanta Braves were defeated by a St. Louis Cardinals split squad 5-4 yesterday in Spring Training action in Jupiter, Florida. The Braves remain in Jupiter to take on the Florida Marlins today at 1:05 pm.
Shorter University’s baseball Hawks defeated Johnson University in both games of a double header yesterday at Shorter’s Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex, 10-0 and 11-1. The Hawks will host Southern States Athletic Conference rival Lee University in a three game series this weekend.
