Shorter University’s 20th ranked baseball Hawks beat Southern Poly 6-4 in opening round action of the Southern States Athletic Conference baseball tournament yesterday in Columbus. The fourth seeded Hawks will take on number one seed Faulkner today at 4 pm in second round action.
Shorter University will play host to the 2012 Mid-South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships today and tomorrow at the newly renovated Maddox Track and Historic Barron Stadium. This is the first time that Shorter has ever hosted the championships. Shorter’s head track and field coach Scott Byrd says it will also be the last, due to the University’s becoming an NCAA Division II institution.

Shorter University’s Lady Hawks softball team begin their quest for a sixth, and due to SU’s becoming a member of NCAA Division II, final shot at an NAIA title as they participate in their final Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, which starts today in Columbus, Georgia. The Lady Hawks, who hold a number 12 ranking going into the postseason and are the SSAC East’s #2 seed, will take on SSAC West #3 seed Mobile today at 4 pm at Columbus’s South Commons Park.
