HAWKS REMAIN UNDEFEATED AFTER WEEKEND, LADY HAWKS SPLIT WEEKEND CONTESTS

Shorter University’s 18th ranked Lady Hawks lost to Belhaven 56-45 in a Southern States Athletic Conference match on Friday night; that was followed by a 73-61 win for the 4th ranked Hawks over Belhaven at Shorter’s Winthrop King Centre.  Both teams picked up victories from another SSAC rival, William Carey, at home on Saturday night.  The Lady Hawks won their game 65-45, and the Hawks won theirs 73-62.  Shorter’s basketball teams will host Southern Wesleyan on Thursday night.  Tip off is set for 6 pm for the women and 8 pm for the men.  The games will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge and online at www.theridge957.com.

ATLANTA HAWKS EMERGE FROM VICTORIOUS WEEKEND, READY TO TAKE ON NETS IN NEW JERSEY TONIGHT

In NBA news, the Atlanta Hawks picked up a couple of wins over the weekend; they beat the Charlotte Bobcats 102-96 on the road on Friday night, which was followed by a 109-94 home victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night.  The Hawks will get back into action tonight in New Jersey against the Nets.  Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.

ATLANTA FALCONS’ PLAYOFF RUN ENDED BY NEW YORK GIANTS IN WILD CARD ROUND

It was an exciting weekend for the NFL as the playoffs began with wild card games.  Unfortunately, the Atlanta Falcons’ playoff run and their season came to an end yesterday as they lost to the NFC East Champion New York Giants 24-2 in the wild card round of the NFC playoffs in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  The Giants will go on to face the Green Bay Packers in the NFC semifinal next Sunday.  The Falcons close out a 2011 season that left them with ten wins and seven losses.
