The 2011 Rome News-Tribune Holiday Festival Basketball Tournament begins this Friday, December 16th and will pick back up next Monday thru Thursday, December 19th thru 22nd.  Tune in for action from the tournament on WLAQ AM 1410 and 95.7 FM The Ridge.  Games will be played at Berry and Georgia Highlands Colleges and the Forum.

NAIA FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP THIS SATURDAY AT BARRON STADIUM

This is a big week for football fans and athletic supporters in Rome and Floyd County with the 2011 NAIA Football National Championship ahead for this Saturday.  St. Xavier from Illinois will take on Carroll from Montana in the big game at 4:30 pm at Barron Stadium.  A host of events have been planned for this week, all leading up to the championship game.  For more information, visit www.naianationalchampionship.com.

FALCONS TOP PANTHERS IN CAROLINA

The Atlanta Falcons beat Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers with a nice come-from-behind victory of 31-23 in Charlotte, North Carolina yesterday.  With the win, the Falcons improve their record to eight wins and five losses so far for the 2011 season.  They’ll host the Jacksonville Jaguars this Thursday night at 8:20 pm at the Georgia Dome.  The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM The Ridge, Northwest Georgia’s home for Atlanta Falcons football.
