One Community United continues its mission to spark open dialogue about forgiveness with a special Easter event scheduled for Wednesday, March 28th featuring “From Death to Life”.
“From Death to Life” is an organization dedicated to ending violence through healing and reconciliation between families of victims and those who have caused harm, according to their mission statement. It was founded by Mary Johnson-Roy in light of her decision to offer forgiveness to Oshea Isreal, the man who killed her son in 1993. As part of her healing process, Johnson-Roy visited Isreal while he was imprisoned for the crime. She would eventually claim as her son the man she once “considered an animal”, says Diane Lewis of One Community United.
The message is in ways akin to that of Reverend Eric SC Manning at the 3rd annual HUG event hosted by One Community United in February, according to Lewis.
The “From Death to Life” presentation will take place at 6 pm on Wednesday, March 28th in the Wilder Center of First United Methodist Church in Rome.
