CONCERN OVER POTENTIAL BLACK ICE LEADS TO DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS IN NORTH GEORGIA

Concerns over the potential for black ice during the overnight hours and into this morning led to numerous cancellations and delayed openings for today in this area. 

Floyd County and Rome City Schools are closed today; a decision about after school activities will be made by noon today for the county schools, reports a release from the school system.  Darlington will delay opening until 10 am. 

Georgia Highlands College and Georgia Northwestern Technical College (all campuses) will delay opening until 10 am this morning. 

The Georgia Department of Labor will delay opening some offices until this morning at 10 am, including the Rome Career Center. 

The Georgia Department of Public Health, Northwest Health District office in Rome and county health departments around this area will delay opening until 10 am today. 

Floyd County administrative offices will delay opening until 9 am; jurors are to report to court at 10 am.  County Commissioners will still meet as planned this morning; their 10 am meeting will be preceded by a 9 am caucus.  Rome City administrative offices will also delay opening until 9 am. 

A number of other school systems and institutions around North Georgia will delay opening or close today. Those include Chattooga County, which will be delayed by three hours. 

Forecasters call for a bit ofa warm-up in our area today.  Sunshine will return with highs in the upper 40s, according to the National Weather Service.  Cold will return this evening with overnight lows in the upper 20s.
