Finster Fest will return to Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden in Summerville on Memorial Day weekend.  Hours are 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th.  The event will be highlighted by more than 60 artists, live music, barbecue and other southern fare, children’s art activities, and (of course) tours of the late folk artist’s home.

Tina Cox, Executive Director of the Paradise Garden Foundation, attests that Finster, who died in 2001, had a significant impact on pop culture.  His work has been featured on album covers for notable rock bands the Talking Heads and REM.  Cox muses that former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne had planned to visit Paradise Garden during a recent swing through the southeast.  He and his crew were unable to make it, but he did send tickets for his show to board members of the Foundation.

Cox looks forward to the two-day Finster Fest, which will actually be held in the Pennville community of Chattooga County.

Admission to Finster Fest is $5.  Free parking will be offered at the WalMart located on US 27 just north of Paradise Garden; a complimentary shuttle will be provided.  Handicapped parking will be offered on site.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the nonprofit Paradise Garden Foundation, which operates and continues restoration of Howard Finster’s two-acre plus attraction.

Finster Fest has had a regional draw since it was launched in 1991. For more information, visit
