Today is the first day of school for students in the Floyd County School system.

Floyd County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff McDaniel expects heavy traffic on this first day back and in the days to come.  He advises parents and other drivers to use caution in school areas.

Today is also the first day of classes for the Georgia School for the Deaf.

Students in the Rome City School system headed back to class on Friday.  Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden anticipates a good school year.  He indicates that a major focus for the city schools this year will be digital learning.

Wednesday will be the first day of classes for Berry Elementary and Middle Schools.  Class will be back in session at St. Mary’s Catholic School and Providence Preparatory Academy on Thursday.

Other schools will begin their school year on the following dates:  Unity Christian School – August 12th, Montessori School of Rome – August 15th, Darlington School – August 19th.
