The Rome chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (or NAMI) will host its first-ever BASH – Barbecue Awards Social Happening – on Monday, May 22nd at Rome’s First United Methodist Church.
Bonnie Moore, NAMI Rome president, says that the organization recently won some state awards that will be celebrated at the event, which is slated to get underway at 6 pm. Bill Carruthers of Savannah, a member of the NAMI Georgia board of directors, will be the featured speaker. State Representative Katie Dempsey of Rome will also be honored.
Jim Moore (Bonnie’s husband and co-leader of the local NAMI chapter), adds that May is Mental Health Awareness Month. He says that the goal of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is to erase the stigma of mental illness and help people live a life of recovery.
