The Rome City and Floyd County Commissions, along with the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority, have now all officially passed an agreement towards a new model for economic development. The agreement will lead to a change in industrial recruitment for the community, indicates Wendy Davis, Rome City Commissioner, who adds that the expansion of industry is just one piece in the puzzle that is economic development.
Davis adds that the Rome-Floyd Chamber will continue to do the things that it does to support workforce development, existing industries, small business and entrepreneurs in the community.
A director to lead the new economic development effort will soon be hired, says Davis; that could happen within the next 120 days. The decision will be made by the Chairman of the Development Authority as well as the City and County Managers.
The Development Authority assumes the role of lead agency for recruitment of new industry, according to the intergovernmental agreement.
