November is observed annually as Lung Cancer Awarness Month. Efforts are being made throughout the month by the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition towards awareness and prevention of lung cancer.
Smoking is the leading cause of the disease. The good news is that there are resources available to smokers who want to kick the habit, according to Erin Hernandez, executive vice president of the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition, who adds that there are many benefits of smoking cessation in addition to the prevention of lung cancer.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month activities include the annual Great American Smoke Out, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, on Thursday.
