An Open House and Ribbon Cutting has been scheduled for this Saturday at the new Rome-Floyd Recycling Center at 412 Lavender Drive. The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held from 9 am until 11 am.
Michael Skeen, Floyd County’s Public Works Director, enthuses that he looks forward to ‘showing off’ the new center to local residents.
The recycling center has relocated from a largely residential and commercial area on Watters Street to a heavy industrial zone at their new location. This is an ideal move, adds Skeen.
Skeen anticipates that the center’s old facility will soon be put on the market; this is a decision that will ultimately be made by the Floyd County and Rome City Commissions.
The new Rome-Floyd Recycling Center was funded, for the most part, by the 2013 SPLOST, in addition to a contribution from the city-county’s joint Solid Waste Commission.
A Residential Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Event will be held at the center next Saturday, January 19th. Appointments must be made in advance to dispose of your items; call (706) 291-5266 to make your appointment by Friday, January 18th at 5 pm.
