In spite of the cold last night and nasty weather prior to that, the Rome Christmas Parade went on as scheduled last night.  The parade made its way down Broad Street, led by grand marshals Sam and Janet Baltzer.  The highlight of the parade came at the end when Santa Claus lit the city’s Christmas tree.  A tree near the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce is currently serving as Rome’s Christmas tree, after the one in front of City Hall was infested with beetles and was cut down earlier this week.  According to parade co-chair Janet Byington, it will be replaced.

Byington says that the Christmas Parade kicks off the holiday season for the Rome area.  She says that there’s good news for those who missed the parade – it was taped live last night by the Library Channel and will be shown regularly on that channel, starting December 5th.
