The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Warning for our area that remains in effect through Saturday morning.

This area could receive one to two inches of snow, according to the latest estimate by the NWS.

Tim Herrington, the director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency, indicates that you can be ready for wintry conditions at any time this season by downloading the Floyd EMA app free of charge from Google Play and Apple iTunes.  Additional severe weather preparedness tips are available from the agency online at www.romefloyd.com.

And with the chilly temperatures expected to continue on into the weekend, Herrington also advises local residents to take care of outdoor pets.  He says to make sure that they have a warm place to stay, along with plenty of food and water.

The NWS predicts that road conditions will deteriorate throughout the day and into the evening.  Motorists are advised to be especially careful while driving along bridges and overpasses.
